The University of Alabama Athletic Department, in conjunction with the Crimson Tide Sports Network (CTSN), announced today that Learfield Sports and Citadel Broadcasting have reached an agreement making WFFN-FM 95.3 "The Bear" in Tuscaloosa the new radio home for CTSN beginning with the 2008-09 athletic year.
"This is exciting news for Alabama fans and radio listeners in the Tuscaloosa market," said Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore. "We are delighted to begin a new relationship with Citadel Broadcasting and 95.3 FM."
Under this new agreement, WFFN 95.3 "The Bear" will air the spring A-Day game, all regular season and postseason football broadcasts as well as all exhibition, regular season and postseason men's basketball, and all regular season and postseason baseball broadcasts. WTSK 790 AM will air all regular season and postseason women's basketball broadcasts. In addition, WFFN 95.3 "The Bear" will air "Hey, Coach", "The Nick Saban Show", "The Mark Gottfried Show", and "Crimson Tide Today".
"Crimson Tide Sports Network is committed to the history of Alabama Athletics and I am thrilled to be a part of the tradition that comes with being an affiliate," said Brandy Jackson, Market Manager of Citadel Broadcasting in Tuscaloosa.
Learfield Sports is the exclusive multimedia rights holder of the University of Alabama and manages multimedia rights for more than 40 collegiate institutions and associations. Learfield Sports also manages the marketing partnerships for the Black Coaches Association (BCA) and provides exclusive sports programming to more than 1,000 radio stations throughout the United States. Additionally, Team Services, LLC, a Learfield Sports company, specializes in venue naming rights, marketing research and sales consultation.
Dallas-based Learfield Sports is an operating unit of Jefferson County, Mo.-based Learfield Communications, Inc., which made its initial foray into the world of sports marketing in 1975 as the radio rights holder for the University of Missouri, which remains a client to this day.
