COLUMBUS, Ohio - Alabama sophomore Agustina de Giovanni earned honorable mention All-American honors for the second time during the 2008 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, after scoring in the 200 breaststroke in tonight's finals.
"Agustina had a phenomenal meet, bettering her times in all her events," Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. "Really all our ladies swam very well, with everyone coming away with at least one lifetime best. This is something we can build on going forward."
De Giovanni finished 15th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.63. During prelims she touched the wall with a career-best time of 2:12.51 which moves her up to second all-time for the Crimson Tide. She finished ninth in the 400 individual medley (IM) earlier in the championship with a school record.
De Giovanni's two trips to the finals earned the Tide 11 points, putting them in 37th place. Arizona won the team title with 484 points followed by Auburn and Stanford in second and third respectively.
Senior Erin Sparks posted a career-best time of her own in the 200 breaststroke, touching at 2:17.06 in 40th place. Sparks also led off Alabama's 18th place 400 freestyle relay with a career-best time of 50.36 which moves her third all-time for the Crimson Tide.
