
Women?s Track in Position at SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ?? The Alabama women's track and field team put together its best performance of the indoor season at the SEC Championships in the Randal Tyson Track Complex Saturday. The Tide hit numerous qualifying marks and set several personal bests in the first full day at the meet.
"They did well and competed great," Alabama head coach Sandy Fowler said. "They got a taste of the some of the best competition in the nation and rose to the occasion."
In her first career pentathlon sophomore Chelsea Taylor did not disappoint with a NCAA provisional qualifying score of 3920 to finish third overall. True freshman Rachel Robbs was impressive in her first championship by finishing eighth overall with a score of 3512.
Senior Trish Bartholomew put herself in good position for the finals on Sunday by qualifying in the 400 meters with a time of 53.30.
Kimberley Laing will continue her stay at the championships with a time of 8.32 in the 60m hurdles. Talaya Owens and Heather Matherson set personal bests in the event with times of 8.47 and 8.62, respectively. Owens also set a PR in the 200 with a time of 24.38.
In the shot put freshman Angelica Howard uncorked a personal best by over five feet with a mark of 48-09.50. In the 3000 freshman Haley Moody also set a huge personal best with a time of 9:59.22. Also in the distance events Ashley Ard eclipsed her personal best mile with a time of 5:05.51.
Alabama will look for more points on the final day of the championships tomorrow at the Randal Tyson Track Complex.
