Women?s Tennis Falls to Arkansas on the Road

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The University of Alabama women's tennis team fell in a 7-0 decision to No. 26 Arkansas today at the Dills Indoor Facility on the University of Arkansas campus. With the loss, Alabama slips to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Crimson Tide fell at all three doubles positions and trailed 1-0 to start singles. Alabama's Andrea Brenes and Paulina Bigos were defeated at No. 1 by the 23rd ranked tandem of Aurelija Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder 8-2, before the Tide's Tiffany Welcher and Meritt Emery fell to Audrey Bordeleau and Anouk Tigu 8-3.
"Arkansas jumped on us early in doubles and took the momentum," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "They were aggressive and put pressure on us the entire match."
In singles, the Lady Backs took all six matches from the Tide. Alabama's Bigos won the first set of her match with the 61st ranked Tigu before eventually falling 10-8 in the third set to end the match.
"I thought Paulina did a nice job today at No. 2," said Mainz. "She competed well and had a lot of chances in the match. She played at a high level against a good opponent and hopefully she will build on that for the remainder of the season."
The Tide returns home after a two week hiatus to host Ole Miss and Mississippi State in its conference home opener.
"We are going to continually have opportunities to play against top teams and we have to be ready to compete," Mainz said. "We have to make some necessary adjustments in doubles and we will do that. We have to pick up and move on and keep moving forward."
