
David Wins 5000 to Lead Alabama at SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ?? The Alabama men's track and field team used the strength of its distance squad to carry them in the SEC Indoor Championships. Newcomer Tyson David won the 5000 meters to lead the Tide in the Randal Tyson Track Complex this weekend.
David won the event with another NCAA provisional time of 13:52.20 to out-distance James Strang of Arkansas. Andrew Kirwa finished sixth with a time of 14:19.94.
In the 3000 David also turned in a solid performance with a time of 8:05.68 to finish fourth overall. Sophomore Emmanuel Bor finished eighth with a time of 8:15.65. Bor would be heard from again in the mile with a fourth place finish. Bor finished with a time of 4:04.01.
In the high jump the duo of Tyler Boswell and Antione Fant scored for the Tide. The duo both cleared 6-08 to finish sixth and seventh, respectively. For Fant it marked the first time he competed in the event on the season.
Brandon Schneider finished ninth in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-11.00. Sophomore Michael Nichols placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 24-07.00. Teammate Tim Grier placed 11th overall with a jump of 23-10.75.
Earlier in the event David Clyburn placed eighth in the Heptathlon with 4735 points. Clyburn placed second in the high jump portion with a leap of 6-06.25.
Alabama placed ninth overall with 30 points. Host Arkansas won the SEC title with 124 points to out-distance the 108 points by LSU.
Alabama will look to lower and get more NCAA provisional marks at the Notre Dame Last Chance Meet. The event is slated for Friday, March 7 at the Notre Dame Loftus Sports Complex.
