
Senior Michael Cooley Earns All-American Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ?? Alabama senior Michael Cooley walked away from the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a ninth place finish to earn All-American accolades Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Complex. With the honor, Cooley adds to the long list of head coach Harvey Glance All-Americans.
"Michael had a great meet," Glance said. "We came in with high expectations and he came out an All-American. There were World leading, American leading and collegiate records run today and he was a part of that, so that is something special. I am really proud of that fact."
Cooley clocked a 47.18 to finish ninth overall. His time was a personal best on a 200 meter track by over four tenths of a second. Andretti Bain won the title with a 46.19.
Sophomore Tyson David also finished ninth in his first showing at the NCAA National Championships. David ran a 14:13.53 in the 5000 meters. Shadrak Songok of Texas A&M Corpus Christi won the event with a time of 13:51.26.
Arizona State claimed the team title on the final event by beating Florida State in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:06.34. The final tally was ASU 44 ?? FSU 41.
Alabama will open its outdoor season at the annual Alabama relays. The meet is scheduled to start on Thursday, March 27 and go through Sunday, March 30.
