MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The 21st ranked Alabama men’s tennis team defeated the 46th ranked Oklahoma Sooners 4-0 today in their second match of the Blue Gray Classic. Due to rain earlier in the day, singles were played first and doubles were suspended.
“I was very pleased with how we rebounded today and came out of the gates shard in singles,” said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. “Top to bottom I feel good about how we competed against a talented Oklahoma team.
The Crimson Tide, 12-5 overall, took control of the beginning of the match. The Tide won all six first sets in singles. However, Oklahoma rallied back to win at nos. one, two and six to put pressure on Alabama.
At No. 5, the Tide’s Javier Bes defeated Vlad Marinescu 6-2, 6-4 to earn the first point of the match. Sammy Struyf followed Bes’ lead and defeated Sergey Avdeyev 6-0, 7-5 to put the Tide up 2-0.

“We have a very tough task in the morning against NC State and need the same effort to be successful,” said Pate.
