TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Alabama men's track and field team sent two athletes to the NCAA indoor track and Field Championships. Senior Michael Cooley and sophomore Tyson David will represent the Tide this weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Complex in Fayetteville, Ark.
Cooley enters Fayetteville with the seventh best time in the nation. The senior has clocked a 46.53 which ranks sixth in the all-time Alabama annals. Cooley hit the time at the Last Chance Meet in Notre Dame on March 8.
"To get to this point he (Cooley) has had a very fine senior season," head coach Harvey Glance said. "He understands the task at hand. I am really proud of where he has gotten and I expect him to have a great meet."
David has been one of the top 5000 meter runners in the nation. The five-time junior college All-American is accustomed to the big stage as he enters the meet with the seventh best time of 13:52.20.
David ran the time at the SEC Championships on the very same track where he won the event and has yet to be beaten this indoor season.
"Coming in and running like a senior says something about his talent," Glance said. "He has a really good chance to make All-American honors and has led us week in and week out. I don't expect anything to change this weekend."
