
Men?s Track Impresses at Meyo Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. ?? The Alabama men's track and field team completed competition at the 21st Annual Meyo Invitational in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon in the Notre Dame Loftus Sports Center. Numerous personal best along with NCAA provisional marks were shattered over the course of the weekend.
"We came into the meet trying to make a move and I feel we did that this weekend," head coach Harvey Glance said. "We wanted to get some marks atop the SEC list and we accomplished that today."
For the second consecutive week the Tide made a statement in the long jump with another 1-2 finish. Michael Nichols took top honors with another NCAA provisional leap of 25-00.50. Tim Grier closely followed with a NCAA provisional jump as well with a mark of 24-07.75.
In the pole vault Brandon Schneider placed second with a personal best clearance of 16-04.75. The vault places Schneider on the Alabama top-10 list. In the high jump Tyler Boswell cleared a height of 6-08.25 to finish eighth overall.
In his first 5000 meter race in over a year Abraham Kutingala ran a 14:20.34 to place fifth overall. The time is the top 5000 mark ran in the conference this season.
Michael Cooley continues to impress in the 200 meters as the senior crossed the line in a season best 21.29 to win the event. Brandon Spradley placed eighth with a 22.02 and finished the 60 meters in a time of 6.96.
The Alabama distance squad made a nice showing in the 3000 meters. Tyson David ran a personal best time of 8:06.17 to place eighth. Augustus Maiyo and Emmanuel Bor followed with times of 8:11.49 and 8:11.54, respectively. All three times were Alabama top-10 marks.
Alabama put the pieces together for a great 4x400 meter relay outing. The Tide crossed the line in a time of 3:10.31 to finish second and secure a NCAA provisional mark.
Alabama will continue its indoor slate at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. The competition will take place on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Dempsey Indoor Facility.
