TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women’s basketball team (8-19, 1-11 SEC) will play its final home contest on the season as the Tide host the Ole Miss Lady Rebels (11-14, 5-7 SEC) on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The game will mark senior day as three members of the Tide will suit up for the last time at home. Mick Gillispie will once again call the action on CTSN.
Ole Miss leads the series, 29-16, and has a six-game win streak over the Tide, that streak includes the last meeting, a 76-47 Rebel win in Oxford on Feb. 3. The six-game streak over UA came on the heels of a win streak for the Tide over Mississippi. Prior to the Rebel win stretch, however, the Tide had owned the series. From 1993-2004, Alabama beat Ole Miss 13 of 15 times.
The Tide have met the Rebels 18 times in Tuscaloosa with the two teams split at an even 9-9 all-time. Head coach Stephany Smith is 1-7 all-time against the Rebels. Ole Miss was the first opponent for her MTSU team as a head coach on Nov. 15, 1998, a game that her team lost by one point.
In search of its first conference road win of the season, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team looks to snap a seven-game road losing streak when the Lady Rebels take on Alabama Sunday afternoon from Coleman Coliseum. Ole Miss has not won a road game since defeating Miami 65-52 Dec. 15 at the Bank United Center.
In addition, the Lady Rebels have not claimed a road victory inside the SEC since knocking off in-state rival Mississippi State 86-84 in overtime Feb. 18, 2007. Shawn Goff enters Tuscaloosa as the Lady Rebel’s leading scorer with 13.4 points per game. Ole Miss averages 65.9 points per game and is shooting 40 percent from the floor.
Seniors Nathalie Reshard, Christy Elliott and Taylor Allen will suit up for the final time in Coleman Coliseum as Sunday’s contest marks senior day for the Alabama women’s basketball team. Reshard played two years at the Capstone after transferring from Okaloosa-Walton CC. Elliott, a former practice play and Allen, a manager for the Tide for all four seasons, will also be in uniform for the last time.
Sunday’s game will also mark the Go Red For Women where Alabama is in partnership with the American Heart Association. Everyone can support the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red. It’s a simple, powerful way to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke. All participants at the game are encouraged to wear red.
Alabama will put a wrap on its regular season with a road contest at Vanderbilt. The Tide will play the Commodores on March 2 in Nashville at 2:00 p.m. The SEC Tournament will then start on March 6 at the Sommet Center in as the Tide will need to head back to Nashville.
