
Crimson Classic All-Tournament Team Announced

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? After having the championship round of the 2008 Hampton Inn Crimson Classic rained out on Sunday, the All-Tournament team for the event has been announced. The No. 2 University of Alabama went 4-0 at the Crimson Classic to win the team title, Georgia Tech and New Mexico went 2-2 and Middle Tennessee finished 0-4 for the weekend.
Four Crimson Tide players earned All-Tournament accolades, headed by junior outfielder and leadoff hitter Brittany Rogers, who was named tournament MVP. Rogers, an All-American a season ago, hit .696 in four games, recording 16 hits in 23 at-bats. She scored a team-high 13 runs and was a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts. Rogers had four RBI, a double and a triple for the weekend.
Kelley Montalvo, the UA starting third baseman, was also named All-Tournament after hitting .444 in four games with six runs scored. Montalvo had a double, a triple, stole two bases and drove in five.
Sophomore infielder and pitcher Charlotte Morgan earned All-Tournament recognition after contributing at the plate and in the pitching circle for the Tide. Morgan hit .500 with a team-high 14 RBI offensively on three doubles and one homer in 18 at-bats. She picked up a win over Middle Tennessee as a pitcher, going four innings and allowing one hit against the Blue Raiders.
The fourth UA player to earn Crimson Classic accolades was catcher Ashley Holcombe. Holcombe had some of her best games offensively this season over the weekend, hitting .353 in four games. She had a team-high four doubles and drove in three RBI on six hits.
Georgia Tech had three All-Tournament team members, including Christy Jones, Aileen Morales and pitcher Tiffany Johnson. Gabriella Parra and Sarah Loeffenholz were included from New Mexico and Ashley Cline was the sole representative from Middle Tennessee.
The Tide is set to play its first game away from the UA Softball Complex in 2008 this weekend when the team travels to the Florida International Fun in the Sun Invitational in Miami, Fla. Alabama faces opponents from Illinois, Connecticut and Florida International. The Tide’s first game is set for Friday, Feb. 22, against Illinois at 11 a.m. (CT) with UA facing Connecticut in the following contest at 1:30 p.m. (CT).
