TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Two weeks after swimming some very fast times in Tuscaloosa, going long course (50-meters) against Auburn, the Crimson Tide followed it up with some very good, and in many cases, life-time best performances at the USA Short Course National Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
"We had great swims each day, some that were pretty exciting, especially considering we weren't wearing our LZR suits and we basically just took Thanksgiving day off and have been working pretty hard in practice leading up to this meet," head coach Eric McIlquham said. "I was pleased with several of the swims, but we need to keep it going and push through the next part of the training cycle."
Junior distance ace Mark Randall continue to shine, turning in a pair top-3 finishes in Atlanta against a field that was filled with top national and international swimmers. He swam a career-best 4:17.34 in the 500 freestyle, taking third and moving up to second all-time at Alabama in the process. He was second in the mile, turning in a 15:00.83.
In all eight swimmers posted at least one career-best time at the championship with sophomore Denes Zubcsek and junior Allyson Angle posting personal bests in two different events during the weekend.
When the Tide returned to Tuscaloosa, those that did not participate in the USA Championships competed in the Don Gambril Olympic Pool in the friendly confines of the Alabama Aquatic Center, a last race opportunity before going into finals this week.
