TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Swimming and Diving teams had the weekend off from competition, but that doesn't mean things weren't getting done as the Crimson Tide men and women went through their heaviest week of training to this point in the year in both volume and intensity.
"It was an extremely heavy week in terms of the work load that we put in with all our groups," head coach Eric McIlquham said. "Everyone did a really good job of battling through and making some significant improvements. We're laying a good, solid foundation with everything we do preparing us for February and the championship season."
McIlquham indicated that divers Aaron Fleshner and Carrie Dragland had particularly good weeks. Fleshner is a junior and Dragland a freshman.
"All the divers have been training very hard this week and Aaron and Carrie in particular are moving forward, adding skills and working on new dives," McIlquham said.
The coaches have the athletes starting to shift gears a bit, moving the work more toward aerobic endurance while still increasing its strength base.
"We hit it very hard all last week, took Sunday off and are ready to come back and go at it hard again this week," McIlquham said.
Alabama will continue in its heavy training phase this week before heading down to Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday to take on Florida State in the Tide's first road meet of the season.
