TUSCALOOSA, ALa. - The work load for the Alabama swimming and diving teams continues to build as each week comes along. Since facing off against Florida State in Tallahassee more than a week ago, Eric McIlquham's squads have continued to ratchet up the work load.
"It was our heaviest week of training to date, which was good, we need to get into that groove," McIlquham said. "We've been working hard all along but in terms of pumping up the volume and the intensity levels, we just keep moving ahead and the kids have been responding well."
As the workload has increased, McIlquham has been looking for more than bursts of hard work from his charges.
"What we've been looking for is more consistency in practice from Monday through Saturday, and we did a pretty good job of holding on all the way through the week while increasing the volume and intensity," McIlquham said. "I'm happy to see that progress. The kids are focused on where we're going, which is a good thing."
The Crimson Tide men have another two weeks of training before returning to competition against LSU in Baton Rouge, La. The women on the other hand will send a contingent to the SMU Invitational this weekend, a two-day event that features six of the nation's best teams.
"No matter if we have a meet or we're training through, we're not going to back down," McIlquham said. "We're just going to keep working hard, keeping our intensity all the way."
