
Volleyball Hosts LSU Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team looks to rebound Sunday when it hosts LSU at 1:30 p.m. (CST) in the CAVE. The Crimson Tide currently stands at 10-7 on the season and 3-5 in Southeastern Conference play, while the Tigers hold an overall record of 10-6 and 5-4 in the league.
"LSU is a tough volleyball club that has suffered some unfortunate injuries this season," said head coach Judy Green. "As with Georgia, we know we are going to have to play well in order to have a chance to win."
Last time out, Alabama suffered a 3-0 loss to Georgia by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-17. Brooks Webster led the offensive attack for the Tide where she tallied 11 kills. Stephanie Riley and Lauren Martin split the assists for Alabama, and Amy Pauly led the defense with 16 digs. The Tide rattled off 11 aces for the match with Pauly contributing four and Riley with three.
LSU enters tomorrow's match having knocked off Mississippi State Friday 3-1 (25-18,20-25,26-24,25-15). LSU is led on offense by Brittnee Cooper who averages 2.7 kills per set and 1.12 blocks a frame. Sam Dabbs is responsible for setting up much of the Tiger offense where she averages 8.96 assists per set. Defending SEC Defensive Player of the Year Elena Martinez anchors the LSU back court with 4.43 scoops per set.
Tomorrow's match marks the 46th meeting between the two programs. LSU holds a slight advantage in the overall series with a 24-21 edge. The Tigers swept both matches last season, but LSU and Alabama had split the two contests the previous three seasons before.
