
Volleyball Slips Against Georgia

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match Friday night at the CAVE to Georgia. With the loss, the Tide dips to 10-7 this season and 3-5 in Southeastern Conference play, while the Bulldogs improve to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in league action.
Alabama lost the first set 25-18 and was edged 25-22 in the second. Georgia closed out the match by winning the third set 25-17.
Leading the Tide offense was Brooks Webster, who tallied 11 kills. Stephanie Riley and Lauren Martin split the distribution with Riley giving out 14 assists and Martin delivering 12. Amy Pauly led the defensive effort with 16 digs. Alabama's serving game was impressive with the Tide throwing down 11 aces. Pauly contributed four service aces for Alabama, and Riley added three.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead in the first set to take an early lead. Two service aces by Riley got the Tide within four points at 15-11, but Georgia continued to build momentum. Lindsey Buteyn and Webster teamed up for a big block to keep the set going at 24-18, but Georgia finished the set 25-18.
The Tide cruised out to a 4-1 lead to start the second. A Calli Johnson and Alyssa Meuth block gave Alabama the lead at 9-5. Georgia rebounded and tied the game at 10-10 with a service ace. Pauly rattled off three service aces in a row to give Alabama the 19-13 lead minutes later. Another service ace for the Bulldogs game them the lead at 22-21 helping Georgia to pull out the set.
The third set started out close with a Webster kill tying it up at 2-2. Webster came through for the Tide again to give Alabama the lead at 8-7. The Bulldogs regained the lead and momentum at 11-10. Elizabeth Salstrand and Meuth both put up two big kills, but Georgia would not let up.
The Tide returns to the court Sunday when it hosts LSU at 1:30 p.m. (CST) in the CAVE. Admission to the match is $3, however, all fans that present an Ole Miss football ticket will be let in free of charge. Live stats will be available on rolltide.com.
