
Softball Prepares for First Fall Tourney

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team will take time away from training and open fall play this weekend against two other squads in Fall Brawl I. Alabama will welcome South Alabama and Shelton State to the Softball Complex for three games on Sunday, October 19. Admission is five dollars for the day.
The first edition of the 2008 Fall Brawl will start with the Crimson Tide squaring off against the Shelton State Buccaneers. The Lady Bucs set a new school record with 35 wins and finished 2nd in the ACCC Central Division a year ago. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. Lady Bucs assistant coach Blair Potter was a former Tide standout in the circle.
Shelton State will then face off against South Alabama at 1:30 p.m. South Alabama, a member of the Sun Belt Conference won 22 games and finished ninth in conference play. After the Lady Bucs and Jaguars game the Crimson Tide will close out the day against USA.
Alabama will close the day out at 4:00 p.m. against South Alabama. The Crimson Tide made their deepest run into the Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City with a 2-2 record and an appearance in the semifinals. Alabama finished with a school-record .879 winning percentage after posting a 58-8 record.
The Tide went 25-3 in the Southeastern Conference and captured the SEC Western Division title. UA swept through the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional and Super Regional. Alabama earned its 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid in 2008.
The Alabama softball team will be recognized at halftime of the Ole Miss football game this Saturday for its accomplishments during the 2008 campaign. Alabama will also be signing autographs on the Quad prior to the game where fans will have a chance to sign up for softball season tickets.
Members of the 2008 Women's College World Series and SEC Western Division Championship team will be recognized in front of 92,000 at Bryant Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18. Alabama ticket representatives will be at the autograph booth to take season ticket reservations for the upcoming softball season. Members of the Crimson Tide will have a booth on the Quad between 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Alabama will suit up for its second edition of fall play on Saturday, Oct. 25 for Fall Brawl II. The Crimson Tide will host Chattanooga State, Wallace State and Middle Tennessee State for a total of eight games in two days.
