
Action Packed Weekend in Sight for Softball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team, coming off its most successful season in school history will be recognized at halftime of the Ole Miss football game for its accomplishments during the 2008 campaign. Alabama will also be signing autographs on the Quad prior to the game where fans will have a chance to sign up for softball season tickets.
Members of the 2008 Women's College World Series and SEC Western Division Championship team will be recognized in front of 92,000 at Bryant Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18. Alabama ticket representatives will be at the autograph booth to take season ticket reservations for the upcoming softball season. Members of the Crimson Tide will have a booth on the Quad between 12:30-1:30 p.m.
The Crimson Tide made their deepest run into the Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City with a 2-2 record and an appearance in the semifinals. Alabama finished with a school-record .879 winning percentage after posting a 58-8 record.
The Tide went 25-3 in the Southeastern Conference and captured the SEC Western Division title. UA swept through the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional and Super Regional. Alabama earned its 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid in 2008 and finished with a 58-8 overall record. In just its 12th year of existence, the Crimson Tide program has garnered 10 appearances in NCAA Regional play.
The Alabama softball team had four players earn 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association The Crimson Tide led the nation with three first-team selections as Brittany Rogers, Charlotte Morgan and Kelley Montalvo were honored. Freshman pitcher Kelsi Dunne also garnered third-team honors. It marked the most first-team All-America selections in school history and tied the 2001 team with four total All-Americans. Rogers becomes a three-time All-American, while Morgan, Montalvo and Dunne all garnered their first honor.
The Alabama softball team had 14 of its 18 players on the 2008 roster capture academic accolades from the Southeastern Conference. The Crimson Tide garnered 11 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll honorees along with three members of the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll. Morgan, an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, paced the Tide in the classroom. ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections Jordan Praytor, Ashley Holcombe and Chrissy Owens were also named to the SEC Spring Honor Roll. Praytor was also named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Crimson Tide will open its fall slate this weekend with two games on Sunday, Oct. 19. Alabama will take on Shelton State at 11 a.m. and then play South Alabama at 4 p.m. All games will be played at the Alabama Softball Complex.
