TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama women's tennis team hosts Southern Mississippi Sunday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the UA Varsity Courts in its first dual match of the season. In case of temperatures below 50 degrees or rain, the match will be moved to a noon start time at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility adjacent to Coleman Coliseum.
"We are looking forward to hosting Southern Mississippi at home this Sunday," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "It's always exciting to play at home in front of the "Bama" fans. I am confident that the Tuscaloosa tennis enthusiasts will enjoy watching this dynamic squad play. They are fun to watch and compete with great tenacity."
Alabama, 0-0, 0-0 SEC, heads into the match after prepping for the spring season with a trip to Hawaii, in which the Tide competed in the Spring Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Alabama gained some experience against the likes of 20th-ranked Florida State, as well as Kansas, Cal State Fullerton and host Hawaii.
"We took a step forward as a team in Hawaii. I was encouraged with the way we competed and the vast improvement of this team. Our goal is to continue getting a day better each day and be prepared to play our best tennis."
The match will be Southern Mississippi's first match of the spring season as well. The Golden Eagles finished off the fall season by reaching the semi-finals of the Conference USA tournament.
