A walk-on, David Woods joined the Alabama team this spring ... he will battle for playing time at catcher.
SOPHOMORE (2007 ?? Meridian CC):
Appeared in 44 games for Meridian CC ... hit .267 (23-for-86) with one home run and 15 RBI ... also added five doubles ... posted a .988 fielding percentage behind the plate and threw out 40 percent of opponent base stealers ... played in 79 career games and compiled a career batting average of .235 (39-for-166) with two home runs and 25 RBI with nine doubles and 19 walks ... threw out 42 percent of opposing base runners in his two-year career.
FRESHMAN (2006 ?? Meridian CC):
Played for Coach Chris Rose ... MCC’s assistant coach and hitting coach during his two-year career was former Alabama All-American, Joe Caruso ... played in 35 games, hitting .200 (16-for-80) with one home run and 10 RBI with four doubles ... threw out 44 percent of opposing base stealers.
HIGH SCHOOL:
A 2005 graduate of West Lauderdale (Miss.) High School where he played for Coach Jerry Boatner ... was selected in the 42nd round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft by the Florida Marlins.
PERSONAL:
Full name is David Rush Woods, Jr. ... parents are David Woods and Dee Dee Richardson ... has two sisters, Kellie and Hallie.
