TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Alabama head coach Judy Green announced the hiring of Josh Lauer as the new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator this week. Lauer joins the Tide coaching staff after a four year stint as the head coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
“I am pleased to announce Josh Lauer has joined our coaching staff as an assistant coach and will serve as our recruiting coordinator” said head coach Judy Green. “Throughout the process Josh was extremely passionate about being a part of Crimson Tide volleyball. He brings a variety of experience to our staff and I feel he compliments my strengths as a head coach as well as my current assistant Ben Boldt.”
During his career as the head coach of the Tritons, Lauer’s teams steadily improved each season and earned their second straight bid to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in 2007. Lauer got his start in coaching at the club level with St. Louis CYC Volleyball Club. Since 2000, Lauer has been developing athletes at the junior Olympic level and led three teams to top-five national finishes in the Open Division at the USJOV National Tournament.
“I’m really excited to join the Alabama volleyball family,” said Lauer. “It is a great opportunity for me professionally and for my family. I am very excited to work with Coach Green, whom I have a lot of respect for. Alabama has a great athletic tradition in a place where you can win championships and I’m hoping I can come in and help make that happen.”
Lauer is a graduate of Washington University-St. Louis where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in religious studies. Lauer is a certified volleyball official at the high school, collegiate and junior national levels.
A native of St. Louis, Lauer and his wife, Debra, have one son, Noah.
