TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama sophomore Agustina de Giovanni was named Southeastern Conference Female Swimmer of the Week the league office announced today after a weekend that saw her dominate the competition in three different events.
De Giovanni won the 1650 freestyle as well as the 100 and 200 breaststrokes against Kentucky on Saturday. Her time in the mile was more than 20 seconds better than her closest opponent while her winning times in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes were career best marks.
De Giovanni set the school record in the 400 IM earlier this season in a dual meet against Auburn, burying the old mark by two seconds. She ranks in the Tide’s all-time top 10 in eight of the 14 individual events and is part of its school record 400 freestyle relay.
De Giovanni and Alabama close out the regular season Feb. 2 on the road in Columbia, S.C. against South Carolina and Georgia before returning to Tuscaloosa to host the SEC Championships Feb. 20-23.
