
Women?s Track Gets Good Start on Day 1

CLEMSON, S.C. ?? The Alabama women's track team put together a solid start in day 1 of the Clemson Invitational Friday evening from the Clemson Track and Field Complex. The Tide currently sit in fourth place with 17 points on the strength of a distance medley top finish.
For the second consecutive season at the Clemson Invitational the Tide took home top honors in the distance medley. The quartet of Julia Hicks, Trish Bartholomew, Haley Moody and Kelsie Slater completed the relay in 12:03.56.
With UA All-American Bartholomew making her 2008 debut, the Tide won the event by three seconds and was six seconds faster than SEC rival Mississippi State.
Alabama once again put together a good showing in the weight throw. Freshman Angelica Howard placed fourth overall with a heave of 51-10 (15.81m). The toss is over three feet further than her mark at the Kentucky Invitational last week.
Sophomore Elizabeth Wilson placed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 48-05 (14.78m), five feet further than last week. Jessica Hand and Meghan Austin rounded out the Tide throwers with marks of 40-09 (12.43m) and 36-11 (11.27m), respectively.
Three Tide athletes competed in the 60m dash. Devon Romero led Alabama with a time of 8.15 while Kiara Thompson turned in an 8.21 and Meagan Miller followed with a 8.27.
In the long jump, Rachel Robbs turned in a leap of 14-08 (4.49m). Saturday's action will begin at 11:00 am at the Clemson Indoor Track with the last event scheduled for 5:05 pm
