TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Alabama women's basketball team suffered a 63-49 loss to Arkansas Thursday night from Coleman Coliseum. Tide sophomore guard Dedrea Magee paced UA with a career-high 19 points. After the day, Alabama falls to 8-10 overall and 1-2 in SEC play.
"It's very disheartening," Alabama head coach Stephany Smith said. "Execution, both offensively and defensively, we were not showing the same kind of hustle plays as before. You have to give Arkansas a lot of credit, they really found their rhythm tonight."
Arkansas came out of the gates early and raced to a 15-3 lead but Alabama showed resolve by putting together a 22-13 run to end the half only down 28-25.
Arkansas though was too much in the second half by shooting 52 percent from the floor in the frame to pull away from the Tide.
Magee led all scorers with a career-best 19 points on 8-for-16 shooting. It's the third game in four outings that the Picayune, Miss. native had tallied a career-high in points.
Newcomer Varisia Raffington also set a career-high in points by recording 10 on 4-for-9 shooting. Raffington was 2-for-4 from downtown.
Alabama shot 37 percent (19-for-51) in the game and 33 percent (3-for-9) from beyond the arc. Arkansas shot 46 percent (25-for-55) from the floor and 25 percent (5-for-20) from three.
The Lady Razorbacks had four players record double-digits in points, including a team-high 17 points from Sarah Pfeifer. Pfeifer shot 7-for-18 from the floor and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Arkansas out-rebounded Alabama 36-33. The Tide was led on the boards by Caitlin Hollifield, Talisha Chandler and Courtney Strauthers, who each had five.
Alabama will continue its SEC slate by heading back on the road to Athens, GA. The Tide will face the No. 11/12 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 5:00 p.m. EST from the Stegeman Coliseum.
