TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? Over 25 women from the Tuscaloosa community gathered at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility Saturday morning to participate in the University of Alabama women's tennis annual Ladies Clinic. The one-day clinic held over the weekend is only one of multiple clinics held by the Crimson Tide to promote tennis to women in the community.
"We had a great turnout as our team hosted a ladies tennis clinic," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "Our coaches and players enjoyed meeting the tennis enthusiasts in the Tuscaloosa community and giving something back to them. It's an opportune time to develop relationships with these ladies and generate more interest in our Alabama women's tennis program."
The Tide engaged the participants in instructional as well as competitive drills for approximately an hour and a half. Each member of the Alabama coaching staff along with the entire squad interacted with the ladies and gave each participant helpful advice.
The clinic wrapped up at 10:30 am Saturday morning with a group picture and a brunch buffet provided by the Crimson Racquet Club. Each participant was also invited to stay and watch the Crimson Tide get ready for its upcoming trip to Hawaii.
"I felt our women's team did a nice job of interacting with the ladies," said Mainz. "They did a great job of translating some of their knowledge and experiences to these tennis enthusiasts. We are fortunate that we live in a community that is responsive to these types of activities. We are hopeful that the Tuscaloosa tennis community will come out and watch our team in action. They will be inspired and empowered with our young charges' energy."
The Alabama women's tennis team kicks off its spring schedule with a trip to Honolulu, Hawai'i to participate in the Hawai'i Classic January 15-20 at the University of Hawai'i.
