
Six Tide Golfers Spent Holiday Weekend Competing

TUSCALOOSA ?? Six University of Alabama golfers spent the Labor Day weekend in Mobile, competing as individuals at the Country Club of Mobile’s 74th Labor Day Invitational.
Matt Hughes, who competed in the U.S. Amateur two weeks ago, had the best finish among the Crimson Tide’s golfers competing. Hughes shot 71-70-71/212 to finish T-8th. Thomas Hugghins shot 73-75-73/221 to finish T-32nd. Spencer Cole, a freshman, shot 75-72-76/223 to finish T-37th. Another freshman, Hunter Slatton, shot 75-76-74/225 to finish T-45th. Ben Moody shot 76-76-75/227 to finish T-56th, and freshman Phillip Weaver shot 79-78-90/237 to finish T-76th.
Five of their teammates, Joseph Sykora, Michael Thompson, Gator Todd, Mark Harrell and Stewart Whitt are currently in Japan competing in the team’s official season opener, the TOPY Cup. Alabama was in a T-3rd place after the first round Tuesday. Tide golfer Joseph Sykora was T-1st.
