TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama volleyball team heads to Starkville, Miss. tomorrow to face Mississippi State at 7:00 p.m. at the Newell-Grissom Building. Tomorrow's match will mark the third consecutive conference road match for the Crimson Tide.
The Tide enters the contest on a two-match road winning streak after posting wins at Tennessee and Kentucky. The Tide continues to be led by senior middle blocker Crystal Hudson who led the team in kills last weekend. Amy Pauly also put in two strong performances last weekend as she collected 5.375 digs per game. Sophomore Liz Salstrand made her debut in the Tide lineup after being sidelined by an injury. The Rockford, Ill. native hit .308 and .529 in the matches and collected 16 kills.
"Mississippi State is a very good volleyball team and is always dangerous in their gym," said Alabama head coach Judy Green. "I believe this match will boil down to which team can serve and pass the ball better. Our team must continue to respect the process and keep our concentration sharp to finish up our third match on the road."
Alabama leads the series with the Bulldogs 33-13, dating back to 1974. Alabama looks to avenge its 1-3 loss to Mississippi State last season in Starkville after the Bulldogs spoiled a 14 match winning streak by the Tide, beginning in 1999.
Mississippi State is 5-6 overall and 0-2 after the first week of conference action. Jamie Joyner led the Bulldogs in kills, attempts and hitting percentage last week and looks to do the same this week. In conference play, MSU averages a .185 hitting percentage with its opponents hitting .300. The Bulldogs dish out 13.38 assists per game and tally 14 digs per game.
