Each week a different member of the University of Alabama volleyball team will chronicle the past week’s activities in the form of a journal entry. The journals will provide insight into what it is like to be a member of the Crimson Tide for that week.
This past weekend the volleyball team and I traveled to South Bend, Ind. for our last preaseason tournament. It was a great experience because we had a lot of friends and family members that came to support the Tide, since the bulk of the team is from the Indiana/Illinois area.
The trip started on Thursday with the team flying into Chicago Midway where my mom met us at the baggage claim and brought us food. After we collected our baggage we got on the bus and drove two and a half hours to South Bend. The whole trip turned out to be about eight hours long.
The next day we played No. 13 Ohio. The match was awesome. We lost the first two game and then came back and won the last three games to take the match. The team was on fire the last three games. After the win we, went back to the hotel on a high.
That night in the hotel everyone was joking round and making each other laugh. My roommate, Crystal Hudson, was cracking us up.
The next day we toured the campus of Notre Dame for about a half hour. The campus was nice but it was nothing compared to Bama. We saw the infamous “Touchdown Jesus,” which is a huge painting of Jesus looking like he is signaling a touchdown that faces the football stadium.
That night we played Notre Dame and, although it was a close match, we lost. The match ended late and we had to get up early the next day so everyone was excited to get back to the hotel and get some rest.
We lost our last match to College of Charleston but I still think, overall, it was a good weekend for the Tide. We made progress as a team and took a big step from the previous weekend. We gained a lot of confidence heading into conference play and it was great to see everyone’s families.
