TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- University of Alabama head volleyball coach Judy Green, along with the 2007 senior class, welcomed members of the media to the program's second annual media luncheon to kick off the upcoming season.
"The volleyball media day is always a fun and exciting way to talk volleyball with our local media," said Green. "The interest in Alabama volleyball is at an all-time high and that makes it really fun for our players."
Green and the four seniors had an opportunity to discuss and promote the 2007 season and also had the chance to give interviews after the luncheon.
"I thought the lunch went really well," said senior middle blocker Crystal Hudson. "We have all these people that work behind the scenes that we never get an opportunity to have conversations with and it was nice getting to know the media personally and talking with them."
"I really enjoyed meeting all the media," said senior outside hitter Bridget Fuentez. "It was a great experience to sit and talk with them outside the gym and to get to know them a little better."
Alabama reported to campus yesterday and held its first team meeting of the season in Coleman Coliseum. The team began its first practice this morning at 9:00 a.m. in the CAVE (Coleman Auxiliary Volleyball Extension).
Alabama opens the 2007 season with a trip to Norman, Okla. to compete against Seton Hall, Denver and Oklahoma in the OU Sooner Legends/Nike Invitational.
Alabama plays its first home match of the season Friday, Aug. 31 at 12:30 p.m. against UAB in the first match of the Academy Sports Bama Bash.
"I personally appreciate the turnout at the media luncheon and look forward to giving them much to write about this season," said Green.
