TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - As a part of the continuing efforts by the Crimson Tide women’s basketball program to reach out and provide community service to residents in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area, the team got an opportunity to spend some time with local Girl Scouts Saturday at Snow Hinton Park.
Senior forward Nathalie Reshard grew up in the Girl Scouts and was very excited for the chance to participate in the event.
“I miss doing stuff. It kind of threw me back in it,” said Reshard. “It’s always great to give back to our community and get out there and see people. We had a grea time.”
The women’s team showed the girls and many of the girls’ family members the techniques of a jump shot among other basketball skills. The team also took some extra time to sign autographs to the young Scouts in attendance. Some the items autographed most beyond the standard poster or team basketball.
“I signed a ??Hello Kitty’ doll,” said Reshard. “Those kinds of things always make these types of outings fun for everyone.”
Keisha McClinic, the Tide’s first-year graduate assistant, helps the players arrange community service events, such as the one Saturday, throughout the year.
“We are going to try and do some type of community service at least once a month,” said McClinic. “This is my first year with the team, so I am trying to find different activities for them to get involved in. Today was one of what we hope will be many more community service events for our team.”
The Tide opens the 2007-08 season, the third under head coach Stephany Smith, on Oct. 31.
