TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama volleyball team participated in its first community service project of the 2007-08 season. The team, along with the volleyball staff, took part in "Celebrity Bagging", sacking groceries for a local grocery store Friday night.
The Crimson Tide bagged groceries at Bruno's for about an hour and a half as the players passed out schedule cards and promoted Alabama volleyball. Each member of the Tide volleyball squad partook in the event.
"'Celebrity Bagging' was a great way to meet the wonderful people of our community and to spread some smiles," said Alabama head coach Judy Green. "We passed out our 2007 volleyball schedules and invited people to come out to see us play this season. We were received with open arms and heard a lot of Roll Tide Roll's!"
The Tide wraps up preseason practice tomorrow with classes beginning on Wednesday. Alabama heads on its first road trip of the season to Norman, Okla. for the OU Sooner Legends/Nike Invitational August 24-25. The Tide faces off against Seton Hall Friday at 5:00 p.m.
Alabama opens the home schedule with the Academy Sports Bama Bash Friday, August 31 through Saturday, September 1 in the CAVE. The Tide takes on UAB Friday, August 31 at 12:30 p.m. in its first home match of the season.
