TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama's top doubles tandem of Dan Buikema and Mathieu Thibaudeau was selected among the nation's best to compete in the 2007 NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Championship in Athens, Ga. from May 23-28. The University of Georgia will be hosting the event at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
"We are really excited to get into the tournament," said Alabama sophomore Mathieu Thibaudeau. "The teams we play in the SEC are really good and that has helped prepare us for NCAA's."
Buikema and Thibaudeau are one of 32 doubles teams that will vie to become the best doubles team in the nation. The pair currently holds a No. 23 national ranking, defeating four teams in the top 20 during the regular season. The Tide sophomores are the only Alabama players to make it into the individual championships.
Joining the Alabama pair are 10 duos from the SEC, including John Isner and Louis Flores of Georgia, who enter the tournament as the top seed.
The No. 17 ranked Alabama men's tennis team will return to action after a two-week hiatus from competition, traveling to Durham, N.C. for the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament. The Tide will square off against No. 51 East Tennessee State Friday, May 11 at 1:00 pm at the Ambler Tennis Stadium.
