
Emeel Salem Named to Academic All-District Team

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama senior center fielder Emeel Salem has been named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) First-Team Academic All-District team, as announced on Friday.
Salem, who has won District IV All-Academic team honors for the second year in a row, will now be added to the national ballot where he seeks his second straight CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine First-Team Academic All-America award.
A native of Mountain Brook, Salem has a 3.90 grade point average with a double major in Marketing and Spanish. He is an eight-time member of the Dean's List during his four-year career at Alabama. He has also won the highest academic honors awarded the the Southeastern Conference and University of Alabama this season.
Salem was the winner of the 2007 H. Boyd McWhorter SEC Male Scholar-Athlete Award, the highest academic award given by the SEC Office. Salem will receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship from the SEC. He was also the winner of the 2007 Paul W. Bryant Male Student-Athlete Award, the highest academic award presented by the Crimson Tide.
Salem was also named the winner of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, presented annually to the to male and female student on the Alabama campus.
On the field, Salem is the Crimson Tide's leading hitter with a .341 average with six home runs and 28 RBI in 49 games this season.
