"Basically, the Linger Longer is to give us a tune-up before the regional," said Alabama golf coach Jay Seawell whose team has won four tournament championships out of the 10 tournaments played this season and has finished second in two more, including the 2007 Southeastern Conference Championships. "With exams ending on Friday, we haven't had a lot of preparation time this week, and we didn't want to go straight into the regionals without any prep, so this gives us a chance to get our competitive juices flowing before the regional. And if you're going to play a golf tournament, you need to always play against the best. That's just our philosophy, and so we get a chance to do that at the Linger Longer."
"The Linger Longer will be a relaxed atmosphere, so I'm not real worried about wearing us out because it doesn't count toward anything," said Seawell whose team's play in other events worked toward seeding and selection into the NCAA field or the conference championships. "It's a prep for all of us. So, no, I'm not concerned about the quick turnaround because we've basically had this week off for exams. Because they all have different exam schedules, it's hard to schedule a team practice, so they've been kind of on their own as far as getting out there and practicing. It's just how it is this time of year."
"I think there was a sense of pride that they were the number one seed," said Seawell of his team's response when he informed them Monday evening after the selections were announced via a teleconference. "That's a huge accomplishment to be one of the top three teams in the country. I don't know if they were ecstatic or anything, but I do think there was a sense of pride that Alabama Golf is one of the best college golf teams in the country. I know that that is their goal, and this seeding reinforces that we are."
