Alabama Women?s Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision to Arkansas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-The No. 63 University of Alabama women's team fell to Arkansas today, 5-2, at the UA Varsity Courts.
Arkansas took a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition with wins on courts one and two. Alabama's top pair of Mari Muller and Andrea Brenes fell to Maryori Franco and Nanar Airapetian, 8-2, while Shelley Godwin and Bianca Svensson lost to Arkansas's Aurelija Miseviciute and Aubrey Bordeleau, 8-0, at the No. 2 slot.
Alabama's freshman duo of Paulina Bigos and Nicole Briceno picked up a win at the No. 3 slot, defeating Ela Kaluder and Rachel Wilhelm, 8-3.
In singles, Alabama's Bigos defeated her opponent in straight sets to tie the match at one point a piece. However, Arkansas retaliated with three consecutive wins at Nos. 2, 4, and 1 to take the lead and the match. Arkansas's top singles player, No. 37 Kaluder, defeated Muller, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Lady Razorbacks.
Alabama continued to fight for the last two points on courts three and five but could only claim one more victory. Godwin outlasted her opponent in a super tie-breaker at No. 3 to give the Tide its last point of the match.
The Tide is back in action next weekend to host in-state foe Auburn in the final conference match of the season.
