MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ?? Former Crimson Tide star Navonda Moore has been given a chance to further her career at the professional level, as Moore has been included on the training camp roster of the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA, the team announced today.
Moore, who finished her career in March ranked 13th on Alabama’s all-time career scoring charts and in the top 10 in steals, is among 16 players on the team’s training camp roster.
WNBA teams may carry up to 18 players on the roster for the first 10 days of training camp, after which they must trim the roster to 15. The final cuts for the regular-season roster of 11 players must be made by May 18. The WNBA regular season begins on May 20.
Moore ended her four-year playing career with the Tide averaging 11.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. She tallied 61 steals as a senior, tying for the 12th-best single-season total in school history.
A native of Jackson, Miss., Moore is one of two SEC players on the Lynx training camp roster. The other is former LSU All-American Seimone Augustus, who was named WNBA Rookie of the Year after being the first pick of the 2006 draft.
Also included on the roster are former Kansas State star Nicole Ohlde and All-American Lindsey Harding of Duke, who was the No. 1 pick of the 2007 WNBA draft.
Moore is the only free-agent signee on Minnesota’s training camp roster.
The Lynx are coached by Don Zierden, a veteran of the professional ranks who had also served as an assistant coach in the NBA. Minnesota went 10-24 in 2006, playing in the Western Conference. Teresa Edwards, the legend from Georgia, is an assistant on Zierden’s staff.
