TUSCALOOSA ?? The Southeastern Conference released its 2006-07 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday, and two University of Alabama basketball players are among those student-athletes who have been honored.
Named to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll were redshirt freshman guard Greg Cage of Indianapolis, Ind., and junior forward John Dill of Florence. Cage, who is attending Alabama as a National Merit Scholar, is a psychology and criminal justice major at Alabama. Dill, the son of former Tide basketball player Johnny Dill, is majoring in history at Alabama.
Their inclusion on the list brings to 21 the number of Academic All-SEC basketball players Mark Gottfried has produced in his 10 seasons as Alabama’s head coach. Gottfried was a 1987 Academic All-SEC himself as a senior starting guard at Alabama. His production of classroom stars has included a school record five players??four of those starters??in 2001. Alabama produced four, all of them senior starters, in 2004.
