Emmanuel Bor to Compete at NCAA Championships This Weekend
Tuscaloosa, Ala. ?? University of Alabama freshman Emmanuel Bor was selected by the NCAA Track and Field Committee to compete at the 2007 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
“Emmanuel is a phenomenal athlete, for a freshman to be in this meet says a lot about him,” head coach Harvey Glance said. “He has worked hard all season and is an example of what we want out athletes to be at the University of Alabama and that is competing at the national level, he is leading by example.”
Bor has had an immediate impact as a freshman since joining the Tide this fall. He won the Southeastern Conference Championship in the mile run with a time of 4:01.74, earned All-Sec with a second place finish in the 3,000m, and was the anchor leg on the distance relay team that took home third place at the SEC Championships. Bor also finished second in the SEC individual points competition with 19.5 points.
This season Bor has also won the 800m at the Indiana relays and turned in NCAA provisional times in the Mile and 3,000m this season. His time of 7:59.28 in the 3,000m is the fourth fastest in school history and his time of 4:01.74 in the mile places him fourth in school history in that event as well.
As a member of the cross country team, this fall he earned All-SEC and All-South Region and was qualified for the NCAA cross county national championships. He won the first two races of his collegiate career and was twice named SEC Athlete of the Week for cross country.
The championships will be held at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Bor is scheduled to compete on Friday afternoon in the preliminaries for the mile run.
