
Fleshner Finals off Platform at NCAA Zone B Championships

ATHENS, Ga. ?? Alabama freshman Aaron Fleshner finished off the 2007 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships with a top-10 finish off the platform at the Gabrielsen Natatorium Sunday.
Fleshner, who finished second off the three-meter board on Saturday punching his ticket for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships later this month, took eighth off the platform with 617.80 points. He moved up one place from prelims.
On the women’s side, senior Karissa Tuthilll posted her highest finish of the championship when she took 13th off the platform after scoring 450.25 points. Freshman Elizabeth Hughes also posted her highest finish of the weekend, scoring 373.95 points to take 18th place.
The Tide and the home-standing Bulldogs were joined in Athens this weekend by athletes from Auburn, Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Five Zone meets were in action this weekend, including Athens, Rutgers, Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma City Community College. From those five Zones, 35 men and 41 women advanced to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, with eight men and 11 women coming from the Athens-based Zone B meet. The NCAA Championships will be held in Minnesota March 8-10 for the women and March 15-17 for the men.
