TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The No. 57 University of Alabama women's tennis team steps out of conference play this week to host No. 47 Washington State at 3 p.m. at the UA Varsity Courts.
"It will be fun to compete against a Pac Ten school that we rarely have the opportunity to play," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "Lisa Hart has done a nice job with her Washington State team and we expect a battle."
Alabama is 5-6 overall, 1-3 in the SEC after battling Ole Miss and Mississippi State on the road last weekend. The Tide is led by freshman Nicole Briceno who improved to 8-3 in dual matches and 3-1 in the SEC after picking up two singles wins last weekend.
Washington State (9-6 overall, 0-4 Pac-10) returns to the court this week after a seven-day hiatus. The Cougars travel to Mobile to face South Alabama today before heading to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday.
Alabama is 2-0 all-time against Washington State, starting in 2002. The teams last met in 2003, ending in a 7-0 shut-out by the Tide.
"It's always exciting to play teams out of our conference and region mid year to regroup for the duration of the SEC season. We are still moving in the right direction and committed to becoming a better, more complete team with each match."
Live stats will be available through www.rolltide.com and admission to the event is free.
