TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama men’s tennis team is ranked No. 14 nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released today. The Crimson Tide jumped 14 spots after upsetting No. 7 Ole Miss in the conference home opener last weekend.
Georgia continues to lead the nation, with Virginia and Ohio State rounding out the top three. No. 10 Ole Miss and No. 13 LSU are the only other SEC schools represented in the top 15.
Alabama (10-2, 3-1 SEC) is 6-1 against ranked opponents and can attribute that success to its strong doubles play. The Tide has clinched the doubles point in all 12 matches this season and is off to its best start since 2003. The No. 14 ranking is the second highest ranking since head coach Billy Pate took over the program in 2003. The team was ranked No. 11 in the Feb. 26 poll in 2003.
Alabama steps out of conference play this week to participate in the prestigious Blue Gray national in Montgomery, Ala.
