
Freshman Emmanuel Bor Earns All-SEC

LEXINGTON, Ky. ?? The University of Alabama men’s track and field team entered their second day of competition at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Lexington, Kentucky today. The day included the preliminaries for many events and a few scattered field events such as the shot put, long jump, and high jump.
“It never amazes me how tough this meet is from top to bottom,” head coach Harvey Glance said. “Our guys preformed and competed very well today, especially our young guys wearing the Alabama uniform for the first time.”
Freshman Emmanuel Bor finished second in the 3,000m which earned him All- SEC honors and a NCAA provisional mark with his time of 8:04.80. He also finished second in the mile with a time of 4:05.74, which places him in the finals to be completed on Sunday. Augustus Maiyo turned in a time 4:13.70 in the mile, just missing the finals by a little over a second.
In the 400m, Michael Cooley tuned in a time of 47:03 which qualifies him for tomorrows finals and is also a NCAA provisional mark. The mark was also a personal best for Cooley and the second time this season that he reached the provisional mark in the 400m.
In the high jump the Tide had two freshman tie for fifth place, David Clyburn and Tyler Boswell both jumped 6-08 in their first ever SEC Championships.
Sophomore David Chaplin set a personal record in the 60m with a time of 6.86, though he did not qualify for tomorrows finals. In the heptathlon Jon Kraght and Daryl Aldridge both set personal records. Kraght scored 4,692 points and Aldridge scored 4,524 points.
The Tide will resume competition at the SEC Championships tomorrow with the weight throw at 9:00 a.m.
