TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The No. 60 University of Alabama women's tennis team hosts the University of Oklahoma Saturday, Feb. 24 at noon at the UA Varsity Courts.
"This weekend presents another great opportunity for our team to help prepare for the upcoming SEC season," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "Oklahoma has a solid line-up and we are expecting a quality match. Our team has been competing well and working hard to make adjustments. I'm expecting to see a better doubles performance and an overall more aggressive mentality on the doubles court. We are looking forward to getting outside and showcasing our premier facility."
Alabama comes into the match 3-3 after last weekend's 5-2 victory over UT-Chattanooga. Freshman Nicole Briceno is on a five match winning streak, including a 4-0 mark against dual match opponents at No. 3. Freshman Paulina Bigos clinched the match for the Crimson Tide last weekend, defeating her opponent in straight sets while earning her first dual match victory of the year at the No. 6 slot.
Alabama is 2-1 all-time against Oklahoma, with their inaugural meeting coming in 1981. The last time these two squads met was in 1994, a 6-2 Alabama victory.
Oklahoma is 1-2 following a 5-2 loss to the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. Tuesday, Feb. 13. The Sooners return all 11 players from the 2006 squad.
Live stats are available on www.rolltide.com. The UA Varsity Courts are located across from the student recreation center, between the Capstone Village and the softball field. In case of inclement weather, the match will be moved to the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility that is adjacent to Coleman Coliseum.
