So the 2002 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year has launched “The Mark Gottfried Charitable Foundation’s First Annual Tennis Shoe Toss.” He’s asking Crimson Tide fans and the citizens of

“I’m a father of five kids, so I know how frequently kids out-grow their tennis shoes,” said Gottfried, “and it can be a financial burden on families trying to keep up with the expense of replacing them. We need to look out for the kids in our community. There are kids who can’t play sports because they don’t have the right shoes and there are kids in our community who are maybe risking injury because they don’t have good shoes to play in. I’m hoping it’s going to be a phenomenal afternoon for some young people here in town that they can benefit. Hopefully everybody will participate. Look in your closet. I know there are some tennis shoes that someone else can use a lot more than we do on a day-to-day basis. If everybody participates, it’ll be a great thing for our community.”
