PONTE VEDRA, FLA. ?? The University of Alabama golf team shot three over par, 291, in Tuesday’s second round to continue its hold on the lead at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. Alabama goes into Tuesday’s final round leading the field of 15 teams. It has a four-stroke lead against Coastal Carolina.
Alabama is in first place going into the final round, shooting 303 on Sunday and 291 on Monday. The Tide is 18 over par through 36 holes of play. Coastal Carolina is in second place after shooting one over par, 289, on Monday, the day’s second lowest round. Coastal shot 309-289/598. Vanderbilt and Central Florida are tied for third with two-round totals of 599. Central Florida had the low round of the tournament so far on Monday when it shot four under par, 284. Georgia State is in fifth (602), followed by UAB (605), UCLA (606), host North Florida (607), Augusta State (610), Charlotte (612), LSU (613) Tennessee (615), Pepperdine (620), South Carolina (622) and Notre Dame (625).
Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson shot four under par, 68, on Monday to emerge as the individual leader going into the final round. He shot 73-68/141.
Alabama’s Gator Todd is tied at 7th after shooting 75-73/148 on the par 72 course at Sawgrass Country Club. Thomas Hagler is among a tie at 15th (78-72/150) with, among other, his Crimson Tide teammate Matthew Swan (75-75/15). Mark Harrell is tied at 21st (75-76/151) and Joseph Sykora is overcame a nightmare round of 83 on Sunday to follow with one under par, 71, on Monday and climbed 35 spots to a tie at 36th (83-71/154).
The tournament concludes with the third and final round on Tuesday.
