Ames, Iowa ?? The University of Alabama men’s track and field team competed this weekend at the Iowa State University Classic in Ames, Iowa. The Tide also set members of their distance crew to the Husky Classic at the University of Washington.
“We are continuing to do some positive things,” head coach Harvey Glance said. “We have to zone in now on the Southeastern Conference Championships and get ready to rewrite the Bama history books.”
Sprinter Michael Cooley continues to lead the way for the Tide on the track. Cooley has won the 200m in every race he has competed this season and the ISU classic was not any different, with Cooley taking first place in the field of 134 runners. He missed a NCAA provisional mark by four-one-hundredths of a second. Cooley’s time of 21.27 places him in the UA indoor top 10 all time list.
Sophomore Paul Wynn set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 23-10.25, which places him in the top five in the SEC this season.
Junior Brandon Schneider reached a height of 16-01.25 in the pole vault, which was good for a sixth place finish at the ISU Classic and moved him into the UA top 10 all time indoor list.
In Washington freshman Emmanuel Bor and sophomore Augustus Maiyo competed in the mile run. Maiyo turned in a time of 4:04.77 and Bor finished at 4:04.84, both just missing the provisional mark of 4:04.00. Their times were the third and fourth best in the SEC this season.
The Tide will compete next at the SEC Championships on February 23rd in Lexington, Kentucky.
