
Women?s Golf Finishes Fifth at Hooters Collegiate Championship

KISSIMMEE, Fla. ?? The Alabama women's golf team wrapped up the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship with a fifth place finish Tuesday from the Ginn Reunion Resort. Alabama defeated Texas A&M 3-2-0 to secure the fifth place finish.
The Tide got wins from Camilla Lennarth, Kathleen Ekey and Sarah Sturm. Lennarth defeated Sara Hemmingway 2&1 while Ekey downed Lauren Johnson 3&2. Sturm earned the victory over Ashley Freeman by the score of 4&3.
The Duke Blue Devils captured their 4th Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship in as many tries as they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 3-1-1. Duke was also the Champion in 2003, 2004 and 2006.
With the conclusion of match play, it marks the last fall outing for Alabama. The Tide put together one of its strongest fall seasons in program history. Alabama was a mainstay in the Top 25 and was ranked No. 9 after capturing the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
After coming close in the season-opening Cougar Classic and finishing in a tie for third, the Tide put all the pieces together and captured the team title at the Wildcat Fall Invitational. In addition to the team victory, Tide players finished in each of the top three individual spots. The Tide led from start-to-finish en route to its first tournament championship since the fall of 2005.
Alabama will tee off its spring schedule on Feb. 24 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The three-day event will be held at the Coco Beach Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
