TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama volleyball team picked up three SEC post-season awards this year. Senior defensive specialist Megan Hudson rounded out the list with a spot on the SEC Community Service Team.
The Community Service Team, formerly known as the Good Works Team, honors one athlete from each conference institution who best exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete. Each athlete on the Community Service Team has given back to the community consistently throughout the season and strives to make her community a better place.
"Megan is a distinguished student, athlete and person at the University of Alabama,” said Alabama head coach Judy Green. “She has been instrumental in the advancement of our team's community service efforts over the past several years. She is very deserving of this award."
The St. Louis, Mo. native earned her second consecutive nod this year after she donated hundreds of hours of her time throughout the Tuscaloosa community. As president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus, Hudson coordinated numerous events, including the Together We Can Food Drive, Angel Tree Shopping and the Halloween Extravaganza where she coordinated games for under-privileged children. Hudson also cooked and served pancakes at a community Pancake Breakfast and spent time at the Capstone Retirement Village where she mingled and played games with the residents.
Most recently, Hudson spoke at University Place Elementary School as part of Red Ribbon Week to encourage grade school children to stay drug free.
Hudson, along with the rest of the Crimson Tide will have its last practice in the CAVE this afternoon before heading to Clemson, S.C. for the first and second rounds of the 2007 NCAA tournament.
