TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? After weeks of daily training and conditioning, the Alabama Swimming and Diving teams will get up and compete for the first time Friday in the annual Crimson and White Intrasquad meet.
The intrasquad gets underway at 2:30 p.m. with the three-meter diving event while the swimming portion of the competition gets underway at 3 p.m. The meet will be held in the Don Gambril Olympic Pool at the Alabama Aquatic Center and admission is free.
“It will be good for everyone to get up and race,” Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. “We’re at the point in the season where we need to let it rip a little bit, get out there and see where we are.”
For 23 Tide men and women, it will be the first collegiate action they’ve seen. The men’s team sports 10 rookies and the women 13. And the intrasquad comes just a week before the Tide opens its season in Atlanta against ACC foes Georgia Tech and Clemson.
In addition to the intrasquad meet, the swimming and diving program is hosting its Alumni Weekend and will recognize eight members of its hall of fame with a dinner Friday night. There will also be an Alumni Meet Saturday morning at the Alabama Aquatic Center.
