Brenes Makes Run at ITA Southern Championship

ATHENS, Ga. ?? The University of Alabama women's tennis team lone senior Andrea Brenes fell in the semifinals of the 2007 ITA Southern Championships hosted by the University of Georgia.
Brenes defeated Lina Xu 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals before falling to top-seeded Federica Suess of Florida State, 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals of the "B" main bracket.
In doubles, sophomores Paulina Bigos and Alice Tunaru fell to top-seeded Bijlkova and Shumate of South Florida 9-8 (4) in the quarterfinals of the "B" main bracket.
Freshman Tiffany Welcher has to wait another day to face off against UAB's Antonia Nugent in the consolation bracket. Due to inclement weather all consolation bracket matches were cancelled and will resume tomorrow. Welcher and Nugent will square off at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in the round of 16 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
